CORYDON, IN (WAVE) - A large fire destroyed eight units of a Corydon apartment complex early Friday morning, leaving 18 people without a home.

The fire started around 12:45 a.m. at Autumn Ridge Apartments.

According to apartment manager Jill Robinson, the office area also sustained significant water damage. She said about nine fire departments responded to the scene.

Robinson said neighbors helped neighbors get out of the building safely. "We have some great residents here, and a lot of people in this building had been with us for quite a while."

Robinson said apartment management was working to provide resources to help the affected residents get back on their feet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
