CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Three months after a Mason spine surgeon facing federal charges made his initial appearance in court, the Kentucky Medical Board has suspended his license.
Earlier this year, federal and state health care fraud investigators arrested Dr. Abubakar Atiq Durrani, 44, stemming from a federal complaint alleging that he convinced patients to undergo medically unnecessary spinal surgeries. He then allegedly billed private and public healthcare benefit programs for the fraudulent services.
According to prosecutors, the amount totaled more than $10 million.
Durrani owns a private practice called the Center for Advanced Spine Technologies (CAST) with offices in Evendale and Florence, Kentucky.
Durrani's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
