Woman hit by a police officer in Over-the-Rhine

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A pedestrian was struck by a police vehicle in Over-the-Rhine around 8 p.m. Saturday, November 9.

Cincinnati Police Officer Orlando Smith was responding to a request for backup when he hit a woman crossing the street in the 1800 block of Vine St.

Natalie Cole,  36-years-old, was crossing Vine St., not in a crosswalk, when she was struck by Officer Smith's car. Witnesses told police Cole flew 40 feet in the air after being struck by the cruiser. She was transported to UC Medical Center where she is listed in serious and stable condition.

Officer Smith was operating a marked vehicle with the emergency lights and siren activated before the accident. 

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation and any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department's Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
