LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) -
Students at Loveland Middle and Intermediate schools were evacuated Thursday morning after the district received an email bomb threat.
Loveland City Schools Superintendent Chad Hilliker notified police around 7 a.m. after reading an email indicating a bomb threat at Loveland Middle School. Because Loveland Middle (LMS) and Intermediate schools (LIS) are adjacent to each other, the decision was made to evacuate both schools.
Roughly 1,400 students from the two schools were shuttled to Loveland's primary and elementary buildings as a safety precaution.
An extensive search was conducted by the Loveland City Police Department and specially trained K9 units to investigate the threat. After several hours, police determined the buildings were safe for students to enter.
All remaining middle school and intermediate school students will eat lunch at the elementary and primary buildings and finish the rest of classes there. In addition, the school district says all activities set to take place Thursday evening at LIS and LMS have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Loveland Police Chief Tim Sabransky said investigators are also working to track down the origin of the email.
All students and staff are safe. They'll continue to post updates on the district website.
