Tips to stay healthy through the holidays

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It's easy to over indulge in holiday treats and become too busy to make it to the gym this time of year. The holiday season can wreak havoc on a healthy lifestyle which could lead to a higher risk of catching a cold or the flu.

Dr. Derek van Amerongen and Humana say that the simplest actions go a long way in staying healthy. Here are their tips to keep your immune system boosted in to the new year.

  • Keep hand sanitizer around the house, at work and at school.
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables at every meal.
  • Remain active.
  • Use a pedometer to track your steps.
