Plans in place for changes in Gibson Co. schools

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

Some parents in Princeton say they're confused on where their child will go to school next year.

The school corporation has been shifting students since the construction of the new high school, but now the plan is in place for next year.

The Brumfield Elementary School, which is being remodeled and renamed the Princeton Community Primary School North, will soon house all of the district's first and second graders, bringing them together in one building for the first time in 18 years.

The superintendent of the North Gibson School Corporation says the building is being modernized to accommodate nearly 350 first and second grade students. It includes a new security and sprinkler systems and sound proof walls.

That is just one of many steps the district is taking to bring its students together on one campus. The assistant to the superintendent. Eric Goggins, says it is a long term project that will pay off in the end, benefiting both teachers and students.

"They can collaborate educationally. Do professional development that is geared to their grade level and share resources. They can get expert advice from fellow grade level teachers that they may not have been able to get," Goggins said.

Goggins says all of these renovations should be completed by the end of February and this building should be ready to go before the start of the next school year.
