CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The frigid temperatures and cold rain didn't stop Xavier University students from stripping down and running across campus.
The fifth annual Nearly Naked Mile was held on Thursday evening. Students gathered in front of the Gallagher Student Center, continued up the Academic Mall and back down to the intramural fields. The runners crossed the finish line right where they began, in front of Gallagher.
Many of the more modest students dressed up. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes and the top finishers for men and women.
The run was held in support of 12 pre-professional health students who will be traveling to a small village in Guatemala to provide healthcare and medication. Over their spring break, the team will join four medical professionals in serving the village of Patanatic in the Solola mountain region of Guatemala.
Previous teams have traveled to Jamaica and, when plans to work in Haiti were canceled due to political unrest, the trip was moved to Guatemala.
