Local organizations feed nearly 200 kids Thanksgiving dinner

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Two local organizations have teamed up to provide nearly 200 children an early Thanksgiving dinner.

Volunteers from Unilever and Kroger whipped up all kinds of dishes for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati. Hungry kids shoveled down generous helpings of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and dinner rolls. Pies from the Kroger bakery and Breyers ice cream were served up for dessert

Over 40 volunteers were on hand to make the event run smoothly, including Chuck VanHyning, a Team Leader at Unilever.

"It's our opportunity to kick off the holiday season and treat these boys and girls from the Cincinnati Boys and Girls Club to a great Thanksgiving dinner and share some fun and get the season going," explains VanHyning.

The employees at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati were grateful for the help. The organizations helped to feed kids from all over Cincinnati.

"Two hundred children are attending. All of our school sites and all of our club sites will be here, and we also have several staff members," says Evelyn Anderson, Marketing and Development coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club Administrative Offices.

This year, as a surprise for the children, Cincinnati Reds mascot Gapper made a special appearance.

This is Unilever's third year in a row sponsoring the event.
