Remembering JFK's visit to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

In October of 1962, just one year before his assassination, John F. Kennedy addressed Tri-state residents in downtown Cincinnati near Fountain and Government Squares.

Today, a plaque is hung where Kennedy stood and spoke to voters about Ohio's roll in the nations progress. He spoke about progress in health care, housing, education and employment.

This was his second appearance in Cincinnati, but his only time as president. In October 1960, he spoke in a similar spot as a United States senator.

In his speech as President, JFK pushed for the re-election of Ohio Governor Michael DiSalle, who was defeated by James Rhodes.

In his Cincinnati speech, JFK called Ohio the "mother of Presidents."
