Drop Inn Center to move out of Over-the-Rhine

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - The Drop Inn Center, Greater Cincinnati's largest homeless shelter, is moving from Over-the-Rhine to Queensgate.

The homeless shelter will be moving into a new location near the intersection of Dalton and Gest, previously occupied by the Butternut Bread bakery.

The board at the Drop Inn Center has recently deemed the center's current location infeasible to renovate.

Part of a five shelter system, the Drop Inn Center says they chose the new location due to its accessibility for the downtown Cincinnati homeless.

3CDC will be developing three of the five new shelters, including the new Drop Inn Center. The new developments total $34 million. 3CDC, a non-profit real estate development and finance organization, says that $29 million has been raised thus far. Half of the funding came from public sources and half from private funding.

The new Drop Inn Center will be larger than the Over-the-Rhine location. The new center will not only house the homeless, but will provide programming as well.
