Vigil held for Porshia Brooks, Norwood shooting victim

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A vigil was held today for Porshia Brooks, the victim of a Norwood shooting that occurred last Saturday.

Brooks, 20, was shot in the 5200 block of Carthage Avenue. She died on Tuesday from her injuries.

The Brooks family held the vigil at Red Dog Resort, an animal resort and dog park, where Brooks worked. Porshia's mother, Sharon Brooks, said her daughter loved animals which is why they chose to honor Porshia at Red Dog Resort.

"We didn't want to do it somewhere sad, we wanted to do it somewhere that Porshia loved and the only place we could really think of that she truly loved was the dog park," said Ashley Morgan, Portia's co-worker.

Parents of other children who have been lost to gun violence attended to show their support for Porshia's mother, Sharon, and their family. Of the turn out at this evening's vigil, Sharon said: "It means the world to me to have so many people show their love and support for my daughter."

Norwood investigators believe the motive behind Brooks' murder was a robbery, but they are still searching for a suspect.

If you know anything about the incident, call Norwood Police at 513-458-4520, or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
