City leaders celebrate completion of new pedestrian bridge

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - City leaders cut the ribbon on Monday, opening the new Pete Rose Way Pedestrian Bridge that took just under a year to complete.

The $2.2 million project connects the streets and sidewalks to U.S. Bank Arena and Great American Ball Park.

The new bridge replaces a temporary structure built in 1999 during the construction of Great American Ball Park. The new stair tower is 38 feet high with two sets of 61 steps.

Mayor Mallory and other city leaders gathered at the top of the stairwell, activating the LED lighting features for the first time. The lighting scheme includes red, orange and rainbow.

Construction of the project began November 27, 2012. The project was completed on November 15.
