Couple arraigned in court after returning adopted son

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A Butler County man and his wife were arraigned in court Wednesday on charges of abandoning their adopted son they raised for nine years by giving him back to the county.

Cleveland and Lisa Cox, of Liberty Township, were indicted Nov. 13 on one misdemeanor count each of nonsupport of dependents. The charges allege they recklessly abandoned or failed to provide adequate support for the boy.

Authorities said the couple returned him to Butler County Children Services in October. The parents cited "aggressive behavior" as their reason for returning him to the state.

The couple appeared in Butler County Juvenile Court Wednesday for the civil trial, which was postponed until February 19. They were also arraigned for their criminal trial.
