CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Freestore Foodbank wrapped up their Thanksgiving meal giveaway on Wednesday, passing out enough meals to feed over 22 thousand people.
Over the past three days, workers handed out boxes of food at the center in Over-the-Rhine. The center saw a 10 percent increase in needy families from last year.
"About 75 percent of the population in the counties we are serving are living paycheck-to-paycheck," says Curt Reiber, President and CEO of the Freestore Foodbank. "Those individuals, if an emergency comes up, have to come to the Freestore Foodbank or one of our food pantries for support."
Representatives from the Freestore Foodbank said they passed out meals to a total of 8,924 households, feeding 22,416 total individuals.
The hunger relief organization says they owe the success of the distribution largely to the generosity of donors and more than 750 volunteers making it possible.
