Loud exploding sounds reported in southeastern Connecticut

STONINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Hundreds of people in southeastern Connecticut said they heard three loud booms, that sounded similar to explosions, Friday morning.

According to southeastern Connecticut residents, the first "boom" heard was loud while the next two were quieter.

It is unclear what caused the "boom" sounds.

However, police departments in the area received more than 100 emergency calls from concerned residents that heard the noises.

There are no reports of any major fires in the region and no one was evacuated in southeastern Connecticut because of the incident.

The Eyewitness News weather team has also learned that there were no recorded earthquakes in southeastern Connecticut Friday.
