CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has a special request on Giving Tuesday: they want a hippopotamus for Christmas.

As part of Giving Tuesday, a national campaign following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the zoo is asking for donations to bring hippos back to Cincinnati.

The animals will be part of the new Africa exhibit, joining the giraffes and cheetahs in a brand new habitat. Visitors will be able to enjoy an above and below water viewing area.

The hippo exhibit costs 7 million dollars with 6 million still needed. Because the zoo has to raise money privately, they are asking the public for help.

The zoo would like to raise 25,000 dollars in 24 hours. To promote the campaign, the zoo staff members and Director Thane Maynard made a  video singing the classic Christmas song, "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."

The zoo is also participating in a Twitter campaign with tweets saying "your big fat donation will help Cincinnati Zoo get a big fat hippo."

The public can donate through www.GivingTuesday/ or text "hippo" to 41444.

The exhibit is expected to open in the summer of 2015.
