Boy rewarded 2.5 years after good deed

BLANCHESTER, OH (FOX19) -

A young man from Blanchester is being rewarded two years after doing a good deed.

John Dye and his son, Nicholas, were walking down the sidewalk on May 5, 2011 when Nicholas found $120 on the sidewalk. They turned the money into the Blanchester Police Department where it was held in the department's property room in the event someone might come forward and claim it.

In the fall of 2013, the cash was included in an ad printed in the Wilmington News Journal asking readers to claim their lost items. No one responded, and the police department petitioned the Court of Common Pleas for the money.

On Friday, the department called John Dye -- two and a half years after turning in the money -- and said his son could come claim the cash.

Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt stated while many people would have simply pocketed the money and gone on with their day, Nicholas "showed the content of his character by bringing the money to the police station when he found it."

Reinbolt went on to say, "Nicholas is an honorable young man and I can't think of anyone more deserving of this 'Christmas Bonus'."
