HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A woman narrowly escaped a Hamilton apartment fire Sunday night.
The fire broke out at 4:30 p.m. as the resident was cooking dinner in her Washington Blvd. apartment.
The 71-year-old woman told fire investigators she noticed a strong smell of smoke and looked down the hall to find flames racing towards her.
As she exited her apartment she alerted neighbors to call 911 and evacuate. Hamilton paramedics evaluated the woman who had burned hair and smoke inhalation, then transported her to Fort Hamilton Hospital.
Hamilton firefighters were able to contain the blaze to two apartments. One other resident was displaced and is being assisted by the Red Cross. One firefighter was transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital for evaluation of a knee injury and released.
Damage is estimated at $130,000, the cause is under investigation, and all other residents were able to stay in their apartments.
