Defense to get its turn at Peterson trial
The defense opens its case today in the California trial of Scott Peterson -- accused of killing his pregnant wife. Testimony is expected to last at least a week.
Some legal experts say the defense could win by proving the fetus was born alive -- long after Laci Peterson was reported missing. That would mean Scott Peterson most likely could not have killed them -- because police watched his every move in the weeks after the disappearance.
Prosecutors have claimed the fetus was expelled from Laci Peterson's corpse after it was sunk in San Francisco Bay. Legally, the defense doesn't have to prove anything.
