An 82-year-old Anderson Ferry crew member is dead after he fell in the Ohio River Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that Virgil Souder, 82, fell from the ferry around 2:00 p.m. and was carried in the quick moving current about two miles down river.

A tow boat located Souder and pulled him aboard. Souder was transported by the vessel to a dock on the Ohio side of the river. Police say he was not wearing a life jacket.

Souder was transported to University Hospital. According to Anderson Ferry's Facebook page, he was pronounced dead Tuesday night.
