Brett Hoffland live with pros and cons of winter weather

When it comes to this winter weather that's been pounding us lately, there are those who see green when the white stuff flies and those who see only the downside.

Mike Mettler with Perfect North says having this much real snow helps for a better experience for skiers and snowboarders.

"It's put the snow in people's backyards, it's got people thinking about us. Plus it's been cold temperatures so we've been able to make tons and tons of snow," Mike Mettler.

The conditions may be frustrating for drivers, but one company loves it.

"Numbers wise it's up about 60 percent ice melt products, plows, and everything else. The past couple years we really haven't had much plowable snow," Dennis Klei.

Dennis Klei says during a snow event, they usually stay open 24 hours, and today it was business as usual preparing road salt for drivers.

"If the weather maintains the pattern it has now and stays cold, it's definitely going to be a better year than past but your guess is as good as mine," says Klei.

But it hasn't been a winter wonderland for everyone.

"With the temperatures and the snow, it's really putting a damper on us," Dennis Knight.

The local salvation army says they're about $40,000 short of their kettle campaign goal. And it's attributed to the lack of shoppers.

"We're hoping that this last push people will see the need and with compassion they'll just help us to help those in need," says Knight.

Toys for Tots is also seeing lower numbers this season. Organizers say at the Bengals fundraiser event last week, they raised roughly $10,000 less than the year before.

"The great thing about people in the Greater Cincinnati area is when they hear there's a need they're motivated to step up and reach that challenge," says Knight.
