The University of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University honored thousands of students Saturday at their winter commencement ceremonies.

Over 2,000 students participated in UC's commencement, where President Santa Ono presided over the ceremony.

Ohio Governor John Kasich delivered the commencement address. His speech recounted his first years as a student.

Governor Kasich's speech also encouraged students to make a difference in someone's life, no matter how much money they make or their job title, saying "you'll never fail if you follow that advice."

UC presented honorary degrees at their ceremony, one recipient of those being Xavier University president Michael J. Graham. In his speech, Governor Kasich joked that President Ono gave Graham the honorary degree to "soften him up for tonight's game," referencing the anticipated Crosstown Classic between XU & UC tonight.

President Geoffrey Mearns led NKU's two commencement ceremonies and Dr. Steven Weiss, faculty senate president, was the speaker. NKU tells FOX19 that 1,400 students graduated but only 800 students participated in the commencement.
