AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) -

An Avondale mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after her preschooler was shot on Tuesday night.

The 3-year-old, identified as L'Eah Johnson, was taken to the hospital on Tuesday night after being shot. At the time of the incident, her mother, Ebony McDavis, told police that Johnson was caught in the crossfire of an overnight shoot out in the 3600 block of Tacoma Avenue while her boyfriend, Cordero Warren, took out the trash while holding the child.

Police say that story wasn't true. At the time of the shooting, there had been several 9-1-1 calls regarding shots fired in the area, but they were not related to the child's injury.

After the shooting investigation began, six people were taken into custody for questioning.

Two days after the shooting, CrimeStoppers upped the reward for information up to $2,000. Police say they had a lot of calls to the tip line, offering up information.

During subsequent interviews, McDavis admitted that she and Warren decided to use the reported gunfire in a false version of the cause of injury to the child.

Cincinnati cops say they don't know yet exactly what happened but they don't think Johnson was shot on purpose.

McDavis is facing a falsification charges, while Warren is facing charges of tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability.

Johnson is still at Children's Hospital on a ventilator, her condition is stable. Officers from District 4 took up a collection for gifts and toys to make sure L'Eah can have a happy holiday.
