Wildcats sign 2 JUCO players to letters of intent

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has announced the signing of junior college defensive players A.J. Stamps and Cory Johnson to national letters of intent.

Both players will enroll next month and Kentucky hopes they fill needs up front and in the secondary.

Stamps, a 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback, helped East Mississippi Community College win this year's national championship. He had 51 tackles, including a sack and four interceptions for the Lions, who ranked second in NJCAA defense and allowed just 9.8 points per game.

Johnson's 49 tackles and 4.5 sacks helped seventh-ranked ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y., go 9-1 and earn its first postseason victory in the Carrier Dome Bowl. The 6-3, 275-pound tackle could play immediately. The Wildcats lost Mister Cobble, Donte Rumph and Tristian Johnson from last season.
