Soldier stationed overseas has personal belongings stolen
WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
The trailer in Don Nicholson's backyard has one purpose. To protect his son Brandon's prized possessions.
"It's his whole life when he's not working, he is racing his motorcycle and riding his 4-wheeler on weekends with friends," Nicholson said.
It was Don's idea to get his son the trailer, and that makes what happened even more difficult for this dad.
"He had my garage full of stuff," he said. "It might have been kind of my fault his stuff had come up missing."
Don says Brandon's motorcycle and four-wheeler were taken out of the trailer. He called the Lexington County Sheriff's Department as soon as he realized what happened.
''While they were doing the report and getting finger prints and everything else, two more reports came in," he said. "They said one trailer was stolen, another was broken into."
Brandon Nicholson wasn't home at the time.
"My son Brandon, he's stationed in Kuwait right now," Nicholson said. "He's in the reserves."
Don gave Brandon the news.
''He just broke down and started crying and it broke my heart, I was crying," he said. "When you're over there, you're missing home, you look for whatever you can to kind of get you through missing everybody. With Christmas coming up, that's a lonely time to be there."
Don hopes the sheriff's department can find the stolen items, or someone returns them.
"Especially when he's got about 4 more months over there in Kuwait," he said. Give him something to look forward to."
Right now, Don is just looking forward to some answers and even if his sons things are damaged, he would still like them back.
