HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Anticipation, excitement and then a family reunion just in time for Christmas. A surprise homecoming took place on Monday at the vet center in Hanson.

It was just a normal day for the Bond children, who went to meet Santa. They even got in some last minute requests

A BB gun and a couple of video games were mentioned, but Santa brought surprise present down from the North Pole early.

Little did the kids know that their dad, Sgt. Rodney Bond, a soldier with the U.S. Army National Guard returning from Kuwait, was outside the doors, just waiting to come through. Bond says waiting for ten months was easier than waiting those last final seconds.

"Yeah, my heart was beating fast definitely. My legs were shaking. I was just ready to get in. I almost didn't wait at the door like they asked," Bond said. I've been excited to see them for months now. I can't tell you how happy I am to see them."

They might not have gotten their hands on a new toy, but Dad's hand is one probably thing they won't want to let go of.
