LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A fight broke out near Santa's booth at Mall St. Matthews on Christmas Eve while a WAVE 3 News camera was rolling.

"Two girls, just going at it," one witness said.

"I just heard everybody screaming for security," Max Carter recalled.

The chaos broke out right next to Santa's booth were families lined up for a picture.

"They were literally feet away from our children," a mother explained. "Santa came pulled all the children in took us to the other side and locked up all the doors," she continued.

A crowd had gathered when WAVE 3 News first got there. One woman seemed to prepare to fight. She handed over some of her things to a friend before the fighting began.

"My buddy and I we both get punched in the process of these two girls trying to fight," Tyler Drye told us.

We were recording while one of the women is convinced to leave.

"I was looking for security. They were nowhere to be found" another witness said.

Our cameras rolled for seven minutes before security got there. Those fighting had already left. But security did encounter angry parents.

"A 15 to 20 minute fight, wasn't it, wasn't it?" one woman exclaimed to officials. "Ii don't care what you got, you could have heard us all screaming," she continued.

A mom told us she feels her two daughters were in danger. Our video shows the young girls backing into the corners of Santa's set.

"What I'm saying is you all should be here where the children are," the mom told police.

Others were saddened by the violence.

"It's very unfortunate, very unfortunate," a man said.

St. Matthews police said no one was arrested. It was unclear why the women were fighting. The mall did not return our request for a comment.
