Watchers spot unusual bird at EVV

Posted: Updated:

Bird watchers spotted an unusual bird at the Evansville Regional Airport on Tuesday.

They saw a snowy owl, which bird watchers say are not normally found this far south. They say the bird, native to the Arctic, could have been forced out of its territory by adult owls.

Bird watcher Michael Flake says seeing this bird is a big deal.

"Some people keep a life list and track every bird they've seen in their entire life and this is one of those birds that you're not going to get around here," Flake says.

Flake says the owls are attracted to airports because the short grass resembles the snowy tundra of their native habitat.
