LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Hundreds took an icy swim on Wednesday morning, diving into the icy waters of Hidden Valley Lake.
The 20th annual Polar Bear Dip was held this morning in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
The event brought thrill seekers of all ages.
"I think it's just a great tradition. It's a good way to start the new year," says one of the polar bear dippers. " As you can see, we have little kids that jump and people who are up in their eighties that jump."
The event has really grown over the past couple of years.
"It started off twenty years ago with just a few people. There have been some years where there was ice on the lake. They had to cut ice out so people could go in."
The dip began as a neighborhood event in 1995. However, since the event's inception, the swim became open to any thrill seeker.
