(RNN) - The University of Texas will ask Louisville coach Charlie Strong to lead the storied football program, multiple media reports say.

Strong's record after four seasons at Louisville is 37-15, and the Cardinals are coming off two straight impressive bowl wins. Louisville beat Miami of the ACC in December's Russell Athletic Bowl, and prevailed against the Florida Gators in the 2013 BCS Sugar Bowl.

Louisville finished 12-1 this season.

Strong will replace the much-admired Mack Brown, who stepped down before a bowl loss that put his record with the Longhorns at 8-5 for his last campaign at Austin.

Strong was a successful defensive coordinator at Florida before accepting the Louisville job.
