Police say that speed and alcohol appear to be factors in a Ripley County crash that killed a 32-year-old man and left two others injured.
Officers received reports of a single-vehicle crash on around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning on State Route 129, just north of County Road 300 North.
Police say that 32-year-old Zachary Smith was driving northbound on State Route 129, reportedly weaving all over the roadway. Authorities say that the vehicle went off the west side of the roadway, entering a ditch and overturning several times.
Smith and the front seat passenger of the car, identified as 54-year-old Jessie Windell, were ejected from the vehicle. Also in the vehicle was 23-year-old Casey Sentell.
All three victims were transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Officers say that Smith succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Windell and Sentell were both treated for neck and back pain.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash and the crash was not weather related.
The crash remains under investigation.
