CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Trooper David E. Theobald of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was honored on Friday for his actions that likely saved the life of a passenger on southbound I-75.

Theobald was conducting a traffic stop on Nov. 21, 2013. A motorist stopped and alerted Theobald that one of the passengers in his car had stopped breathing. Theobald called emergency personnel and began assistance at the car.

Authorities say the female passenger in the rear seat of the car was unresponsive. Theobald was unable to find a pulse and determined the woman was not breathing.

However, when the trooper tilted the woman's head back to clear her airway, she gasped and began breathing on her own.

Theobald provided first aid until medical personnel arrived at the scene. The victim was taken to Mercy Rookwood Hospital for treatment.

Theobald was presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the Cincinnati Metro Post for his immediate response and efforts.
