More than 100 people, including City Councilman Chris Seelbach will be participating in the SNAP Out of It challenge next week.

Participants of the challenge pledge to use the average  food stamp benefit, $31.50 a week in Ohio, as their total grocery budget for seven days.

Community Shares, an organization dedicated to social and economic equity, is sponsoring the challenge. They say that the intent is to give participants a view of what life can be like for millions of low income Americans who have a difficult time avoiding hunger and affording nutritious foods.

The challenge kicked off today at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church and culminates January 20.

Community Shares will be documenting experiences living on $31.50 a week on their web site Cintishares.com.
