Wrong-way driver causes crash, serious injuries

A driver is in critical condition after causing an accident by traveling in the wrong lane of I-75 in Cincinnati.

The crash happened near mile marker .5 when Andrea Collett, 48, drove her Honda CRV north on the southbound lanes, hitting a Mazda head on. Three people were in the Mazda.

Collett, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be extricated by the Cincinnati Fire Department. She was transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Mazda, Gilberto Marcario-Temaj, and his front seat passenger both sustained minor injuries and have been released from the hospital.

Macario-Temaj's rear seat passenger, 33-year-old Gilberto Pablo, sustained serious injuries in the crash. Pablo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, is in stable condition at University Medical Center.

Authorities say speed and impairment appear to be factors in the accident.

The Cincinnati Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation and are asking any witnesses of the crash to contact police at 513-352-2514.
