Funeral services held for Shanti Lanza

(FOX19) - Funeral services for a fifth grader who was shot and killed by her father are being held at Riverside Academy today.

FOX19 was on the scene in Sedamsville last Sunday when 11-year-old Shanti Lanza was shot and killed in the early morning hours.

The services began at 10:00 a.m. this morning and the actual funeral begins at 12:00 p.m.

Sunday, January 11, police were called to the scene in the 800 block of Delhi Avenue where Lanza was shot and killed after her father, Deandre Kelley, had come home intoxicated from a night out.

Kelley fired the gun outside the home when a shot accidentally went through the second floor window where Lanza was standing.

Lanza was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Kelley appeared in court on Thursday asking to attend the funeral services today but he was denied by Hamilton County Judge Nadine Allen.

Judge Allen says they were concerned about the possibility of vigilante justice being that there are many members in the community that are still mourning the loss of Lanza.
