3 arrested for harassing ROTC cadet at Phoenix Open

It didn't take long for the Greatest Show on Grass to produce its first arrest for boorish behavior.

Scottsdale police officers arrested three men after they allegedly harassed a woman dressed in her ROTC Battle Dress Uniform who was acting as a volunteer at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Monday.

Evan DiGiovanni, 31, Michael Allen Duran, 29, and Vincent James Hendren, 30, allegedly spit on, yelled at and sprayed a sports drink on the 19-year-old college cadet, according to a Scottsdale police report.

Officers said they saw the three men harassing private security officers near the lot at the Tournament Players Club in Scottsdale and that all three appeared intoxicated.

They began walking east on a sidewalk yelling profanities at the guards and displaying their middle fingers, according to the report.

The victim was driving west in the cart and as she passed by Hendren allegedly spit on her and yelled at her, according to the report.

She told police one of the men grabbed her arm earlier in a tent and asked for a ride. When she refused, one of the men sprayed a sports drink at her, according to the report.

The men were arrested and booked into the Scottsdale City Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and failure to obey a police officer. They were released later pending court appearances.

The most-attended event on the PGA Tour began with practice rounds and other festivities Monday and will have a celebrity pro-am tournament Wednesday.

First round play begins Thursday morning and the tournament concludes on Super Bowl Sunday. Valley favorite Phil Mickelson is the defending champion.
