MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A man taken into custody by Mesa police Wednesday was captured a second time after he escaped from a Mesa hospital Thursday.

The suspect, who was originally taken into custody after he barricaded himself into a building near Country Club and University Drive, was scheduled to be picked up by police when he was released from the hospital, said Steve Berry of the Mesa Police Department.

The man, who was wanted for trying to cash a stolen check, ripped his IVs off and fled the hospital before police arrived, Berry said.

He was on the loose about 12 hours and committed more crimes before he was apprehended Thursday night and returned to the hospital, Berry said.

The suspect's name wasn't released.
