Internet "land rush" predicted as new domains go on sale

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - With such valuable pieces of digital real estate going on sale Wednesday, web experts are predicting an internet land rush.

No longer will you be limited to just .com or .biz addresses, a company called Donuts begins selling domains like .photography and .graphics tomorrow. People won't buy them directly from Donuts. They'll buy them through sites that are qualified as registrars.

So if a wedding photographer was too late in trying to register her name with a .com address, she'll be able to buy one with a .photographer address. However, it's not yet clear whether the new names will be embraced by consumers.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake for companies selling these new domains. InformationWeek recommends waiting a week for the price to go down. But of course if you wait, you run the risk that someone will beat you to it and register a new web address you were hoping to grab.
