Police: Taylor Mill SWAT situation a false alarm

TAYLOR MILL, KY (FOX19) -

Police units and the Kenton County SWAT team were called to a residence in Taylor Mill on Monday evening. Officers are now saying that the incident was a false alarm after a man with dementia called authorities claiming to have been robbed by a gunman.

The Kenton County SWAT team arrived at a home on Janet Road around 7:50 p.m. Monday evening.

"Once one of our officers arrived on scene, he was given information by the victim that somebody had forced entry into his house and had forced him down on his knees at gunpoint," said Taylor Mill Police Chief Steve Knauf.

Officers say that after receiving this information, further details were unclear. Police say that the victim was unable to articulate specific details of the incident.

The victim told police he was able to escape and call authorities from a neighbor's house.

Police arriving on the scene say they were led to believe that a gunman was still inside the victim's residence. The Kenton County SWAT team was called to assist.

Officers say at this time, the victim's son arrived on the scene. The son told officers that his father had dementia.

"We think that's the real story," explains Knauf. "We think that this poor man suffers from dementia and we really don't think anything happened."

Police say they do not believe that a robbery actually took place. However, the case remains under investigation.
