Thousands follow Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham debate
Creation Museum founder Ken Ham squared off with Bill Nye the Science Guy in a debate of creationism versus evolution Tuesday night. And it was a sensation. Between 500,000 and 600,000 people were watching live on YouTube. #Creationdebate was trending on Twitter — not just in the U.S., but worldwide.
Some of the best tweets I saw:
"@jenlkessler: raise your hand if you're having youth group flashbacks! #creationdebate"
"@PizzaBomba: "My head is starting to hurt #creationdebate"
Why Red Hot Chili Peppers guitars were unplugged at the Super Bowl
Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea issued an open letter explaining why the band's instruments weren't plugged in during the Super Bowl. Photos hit the Internet showing that the guitar wasn't connected to his amp during the group's performance of "Give It Away" with main halftime performer Bruno Mars. Flea published a 931-word letter stating it was NFL policy, given there are a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for people in the stadium and TV viewers. They confided with friends, and ultimately chose to pre-record the music and sing live during the Super Bowl performance.
Cat cafes are coming to America
Do you just LOVE cats? The San Francisco Bay Area is getting the United States' first and second cat cafes. It's a feline phenomenon in Japan that basically lets patrons kick back with a hot drink and a resident cat. The two spots, KitTea in San Francisco and Cat Town Cafe in Oakland, are both in the planning stages. KitTea will be a halfway home for adoptable cats. Cat Town Cafe will focus heavily on adoptions but will welcome anyone in for free playtime. The two cafes are hoping for 2014 openings.
If tomorrow was the first day of summer, I would...
Once you think winter is winding down, we have days like Wednesday with inches of snow and ice.
I asked our Facebook fans to finish the sentence: if tomorrow was actually the first day of summer, I would…
Plenty said they would jump for joy, cry for joy, kiss the ground, or go biking, fishing and running. Tom Barger said, "I would complain it's too hot and ready for fall."
Jennifer Deel would "be [too] poor to go on vacation, because of this massive gas bill from the subzero freezing winter."
Stephanie Morris Loukinas kindly stated, "Invite the fox 19 crew over for a cookout duh!!!!"
It's National Signing Day!
