LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) -

A former nurse of a Dearborn County nursing home has been arrested on a reckless homicide charge and other charges in connection with the death of an elderly resident, officials announced Wednesday.

The alleged victim is Dionne Scalf, 77, who lived at Woodland Hills Care Center in Lawrenceburg, Ind. where the nurse worked.

An autopsy found that Scalf suffered a broken vertebra that caused the resident's death. Authorities said a witness saw nurse Kathy Hess abuse Scalf.

The nursing home terminated Hess on Dec. 27 because of the incident, Dearborn County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard's office said.

Hess is also charged with battery resulting in the death of a endangered adult and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

Dearborn Superior Court 1 Judge Jonathan Cleary set Hess' bond at $50,000.
