LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Savion Wright, Alfred Wright's younger brother, has made it through the first round of cuts in the Hollywood round on Season 13 of "American Idol."

The 21-year-old was part of the last group of 10 contestants to take the stage Wednesday. He sat down behind the keyboard, dedicated his original song to his brother Alfred and belted out an emotional number with his family in the audience.

In a one-on-one with Ryan Seacrest Savion said he put all his anger and emotions into his songs and then said "I love you Alfie and I miss you."

The self described "story-teller, performer, multi-instrumentalist, and lover of life" said "Tonight, I'll be talking about my brother Alfred Wright to Ryan Seacrest and singing a song I dedicated to him," Savion Wright said in a status update on his Facebook page. "So make sure you watch American Idol tonight at 7 p.m. CT."

The East Texas News caught up with American Idol Season 8 top 10 and Jasper-native, Michael Sarver and he had a few words to share about Savion and his future on idol.

"I think he's just going to make his brother proud on Idol," said Sarver. "I believe he can honestly make it far. You know it's real unique to have another person from the same town being on Idol and not only being on Idol but being successful on Idol. You have a lot of people who try out for the show but to actually not only be going to Hollywood but the fact that he was actually talented and he did an original song, played the guitar and it just goes to show to me how amazing southeast Texas is when it comes to talent they're everywhere."

Sarver went on to say, "I've actually communicated with Savion over the phone and not only was he talented but he's turned out the be quite a gentleman. I saw him say yes ma'am on the show made me really proud because those folks from LA aren't used to those kind of manners and I thought that was really neat but not only was he good at what he did but he's shown his character to be really high and that speaks a lot of volume about our area."

During his audition, Savion Wright entered the "American Idol" audition stage with his guitar slung over his shoulder. He told judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. that he had been trying to get on the show for eight years.

Savion Wright told the judges that when he was growing up in Jasper, school was a struggle for him because he has been diagnosed with ADD.

"Music was one of the outlets I had to help me overcome," Savion Wright said during his audition. "My parents bought me my first guitar. Music was my medicine, and it still is."

The young singer performed a song he had written. In the video of his audition, the three judges could be seen nodding, smiling, or clapping. All three celebrity judges voted to send Savion Wright to the Hollywood round of the show.

After Savion Wright's audition, Connick joked that the polite and friendly musician needed to learn to be nicer to people. When Lopez presented him with the "golden ticket," Savion Wright was overcome with emotion for a moment.

Family members and friends found Alfred Wright's body in a wooded area of Sabine County on Nov. 25, 2013. The discovery came 18 days after the 28-year-old Jasper man was last seen alive in Hemphill. Despite the fact that authorities mounted ground and air searches for Wright, his body was found about approximately 25 yards from where he disappeared.

Alfred Wright's mysterious disappearance and death are now under investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department.
