TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The owner of a building on Magnolia Street in north Toledo has been indicted on murder and arson charges, accused of intentionally starting a fire that killed two Toledo Firefighters.

Ray Abou-Arab was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, eight counts of aggravated arson and one count of tampering with evidence by a Lucas County grand jury Friday. The two aggravated murder counts carry a death penalty specification, meaning Abou-Arab could be put to death if found guilty.

Privates Stephen Machcinski and James Dickman were killed fighting the fire in the 500 block of Magnolia Street on January 26. Abu-Arab was arrested and charged with their deaths just four days later.

Court documents indicate Abou-Arab was seen in a garage of the building shortly before a fire started.   Those same documents indicate what was described as an 'ignitable liquid' was found inside the garage.

Lucas County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Lingo says the six news counts of aggravated arson are because of injuries suffered by three other firefighters at the scene as well as injuries suffered by three apartment residents.  The initial 2 counts, filed at the time Abou-Arab was arrested, were tied to the injuries to firefighters Dickman and Machcinski.

Lingo says he cannot comment on the new charge of tampering with evidence because it involves facts of the case.  He says court filings at the time of arraignment will details those charges.

Abou-Arab is being held in the Lucas County Jail on $5 million bond.
