Update: 80-year-old man killed in Fort Thomas fire

FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) -

Fire Crews and Red Cross were on the scene Sunday of a house fire in Fort Thomas that killed one person.

Officials say the fire ignited around 2:00 a.m. on North Tower Hill Road. When fire crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames and the house is now destroyed.

Crews searched for the elderly homeowner for several hours but officials have now confirmed he had died inside the home. He has been identified as 80-year-old Calvin Bringmann.

Neighbors reported that they heard loud popping noises during the blaze. Fire crews told FOX19 that they uncovered ammunition in the basement. 

There is currently indication on what started the fire.
