PINs to be required for credit card transactions

CINCINNATI (FOX19/CNN) - Following major security breaches at major retailers like Target, credit card companies are preparing to increase security in the checkout line.

Visa and Mastercard plan to use cards with microchip technology that will be much harder to hack. Customers will be required to enter a PIN rather than sign their name, which they currently do for credit card transactions.

The switchover is expected to happen by October of 2015.
