John Henson, son of 'Muppets' creator Jim Henson, dies

(RNN) - John Henson, the son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, has died.

The Jim Henson Company confirmed he died of a massive heart attack at home Friday.

Henson was a board member of the Henson Company and played the role of ogre Sweetums in several Muppet productions, including Muppet Treasure Island and Muppets from Space.

He is survived by two daughters, ages 10 and 15, and a wife. A private service is being planned.

John Henson was 48.

His father, Jim Henson, died in 1990 at age 53. His mother, Jane Henson, died in 2013.
