Warm-up sparks flooding concerns in several areas

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - We all know those places in our neighborhoods where every time it rains, it floods. This time, with snow and ice blocking several storm drains around the city, everyone will need to keep an eye out for standing water everywhere.

Some call it the sound of spring on its way to the Tri-State. It is the sound of ice and snow melting away, dripping from roofs and into storm drains.

"The crackling and the metal from different beams and stuff on the roof. It's a little different kind of noise than we are accustomed to," says John Gunning with Pachinko Bar in Mainstrasse.

Several inches of snow and ice are finally making their way back to water but now another set of problems are on their way.

"Hopefully it will be okay. We've had enough problems with the cold and of course the snow as well so the flooding, we kind of want it to be done," says Gunning.

Frozen storm drains, standing water and of course pot holes are all things you'll probably find over the next few days.

"I can't wait until it's all over and melted myself. I've fell three times already. I can't wait until spring because with spring comes the summer," says Linda Plymesser.

As troubling as they are, it is another set of problems most say they'll take any day in place of another winter storm.

"A month of this weather has been pretty depressing in a way. I'm looking forward to the fifty and sixty degree temperatures," says Gunning.

"You can't control the weather. It's only god's nature. We gotta do what we can and do the best we can," says Plymesser.
