Honor Flight seeks WWII veterans for free trip to Washington D.C.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati's Honor Flight program is searching for WWII veterans with a desire to take a free trip to Washington DC to see their memorials.

The National World War ll Memorial in Washington DC was dedicated in 2004. Regrettably, the overwhelming majority of the "Greatest Generation" – now mostly in their 80's and 90's - will pass away without ever seeing the memorial it took over 65-years to build.

The Cincinnati-based non-profit is flying the World War II and Korean War veterans on an all-expenses paid trip to their memorials. World War ll veterans have top priority and will be moved to the top of the waiting list. All Korean veterans will be taken in order of receipt of their applications.

Honor Flight Tri-State has five charted flights planned for 2014

The dates include

  • April 22, 2014 (Full)
  • May 20, 2014
  • August 19, 2014
  • September 16, 2014
  • October 21, 2014

Applications are being taken at this time. If you know of any veterans that would be interested in flying, contact the Honor Flight hotline at 513-277-9626.

If you wish to be sent a paper application, call the hotline number and leave a message.

All veterans and guardians will be called when their names come to the top of the waiting list. A phone interview will be conducted at that time.

Honor Flight is also accepting guardian applications to escort the veterans to the memorials at their own expense. Projected cost for guardians in 2014 is $440
