Local coffee shops unite to help injured barista

(FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky Coffee scene is uniting to help Rhett Harkins, Manager of Corner Bloc Coffee in East Price Hill.

This past December, Harkins fell 60 feet while hiking in the Red River Gorge. It took 20 men and eight hours to get Harkins out alive.

Harkins has since undergone multiple surgeries and is recovering well. However, Harkins is currently unable to work and his bills are mounting.

That's why Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky speciality coffee shops are rallying around Harkins to raise money in order to offset his medical costs.

This morning on the FOX19 Morning News, we had Justin Carabello, owner of Carabello Coffee, to talk about a special roast called "Restore Coffee" that will benefit Harkins' family.

"Restore Coffee" is the collaborative effort of six coffee shops who have banded together to help Harkins during this tough time.

Harkins' family will receive $3-5 per 12oz. bag of coffee sold. Each participating coffee shop will also be donating $5 per pound of brewed coffee.
