Michael Vaughan tells his side of the story

(FOX19) - The combat veteran who held police at bay during a nearly 20-hour standoff in December plans to speak out on Tuesday.

Michael Vaughn's attorney said he suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and wants to tell his story.

Covington Police responded to Vaughn's residence in the 4300 block of Michigan Avenue in Latonia on December 21 after Vaughn's friends alerted them to disturbing messages Vaughn posted on social media.

Police say Vaughn, 43, responded to the tactical team by shooting at them out of the third story window.  Inside at the home were Vaughn's three children, aged 15, 11 and 5.

The standoff continued overnight until officers were able to shoot Vaughn in the shoulder through a window.

Vaughn is currently behind bars at the Kenton County Detention Center facing an attempted murder of a police officer charge.
